Extreme winter weather in Durham Region: Stay safe and informed

Whitby, Ontario –Durham Region is experiencing cold temperatures and expecting a major snowfall today. 

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning and is predicting significant snowfall acrossthe region.

Update 1 - Regional facilities and services impacted due to inclement weather

Today (January 16)

Due to the inclement weather, some Regional facilities and services are experiencing disruptions, including:

• Residential waste collection operations are ongoing, but curbside collections are delayed today. Residents should keep their materials at the curb until collected. Update: Residents in Pickering, Ajax, Clarington, Brock, Uxbridge and Scugog with scheduled Christmas tree collection today (Friday), please note, there will be no tree collection on Friday, January 16. Regional facilities and services impacted due to inclement weather

Thursday, January 15

Due to the inclement weather, some Regional facilities and services are either closed or experiencing disruptions, including:

• The Ontario Works office in Uxbridge (2 Campbell Drive, Unit 301/305) is closed today.

• All Waste Management Facilities and the Household Special Waste Depot are closed for today. This includes the Sales Office at the Brock Waste Management Facility (C22480 Brock Sideroad #17).

Regional service impacts in observance of the holiday season

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of impacts to Regional programs and services in observance of the holiday season.

Durham Region facilities and call centres

• All Durham Region facilities, including Regional Headquarters in Whitby and Regional front counters and call centre services, will close at noon on December 24 and 31, and will be closed December 25, 26 and January 1, 2026.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of impacts to Regional programs and services on November 11 in observance of Remembrance Day.

When and Where: On Tuesday, November 11, the following programs and/or services will be impacted:
