Disability Tax Credits and Benefits
Disability Tax Credit and the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)
The Disability Tax Credit (DTC) helps individuals and their caregivers with extensionra costs related to having a severe and prolonged disability. You must file your taxes to receive tax credits associated with the DTC.
The application form is completed by your medical practitioner and sent to Canada Revenue Agency for review.

If you are already getting the Canada Child Benefit for a child who is eligible for the Disability Tax Credit, you will also automatically receive the Child Disability Benefit.
The Disability Tax Credit also allows you to open a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) and receive money from the federal government. There are Government of Canada grants and bonds available for deposit into the RDSP, some without contributing any of your own money. There are also matching contributions provided by the federal government for families of all income levels.
