Centennial College: Early Childhood Education – Indigenous Stream
Centennial College, in partnership with Native Child and Family Services of Toronto and Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services, offered 25 Indigenous applicants an opportunity to become credentialed early childhood educators through a fully funded two-year program.
This program began in January 2023 through part-time learning, and learners are expected to graduate in December 2024 ready to enter the field. Learn more about the Early Childhood Education – Indigenous Stream by visiting the Centennial College website.
This opportunity is funded in partnership with the City of Toronto, The Region of Durham, the Province of Ontario and Government of Canada under the new Canada-Ontario Early Childhood Workforce Agreement, which provides one-time federal funding to support the retention and recruitment of a high-quality child care and early years workforce.

Mothercraft College of Early Childhood Education has partnered with Native Child and Family Services Toronto to offer:
- An enriching post-secondary learning environment with academic supports and instruction
- 630 placement hours (three different age groups) and opportunities for placement at Indigenous agencies across Toronto, Durham & Peel Regions
- Support for membership registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Small adult learning class sizes and opportunities for one-on-one instruction
- Infant Toddler Specialization and How Does Learning Happen? (HDLH) Certificate Training
- Access to culturally-appropriate support, including (but not limited to): facilitating access to elders; supporting access to child care; and addressing housing, income, or food insecurity challenges that may arise during the period of study
Spaces for Indigenous learners have been reserved in Mothercraft’s accelerated, tuition-free intensive 12-month ECE Diploma Programs starting in:
- August 2023 for the in-person program (campus is located at 646 St. Clair Ave West)
- November/December 2023 for the online program
