The Regional Municipality of Durham establishes annual property tax rates based upon the assessed value of the property and the annual property tax supported business plans and budgets.

What Do Property Taxes Pay For?
The Regional average single family detached home has a 2024 current value assessment (CVA) of $483,100 and will pay approximately $277 per month, or $3,318 annually, for Regional property tax supported services.
The Region also provides water and sanitary sewer services, billed on a consumption basis, to customers who are connected to the municipal systems. These services are user rate supported and are not funded from Regional property taxes.
How Property Taxes Are Calculated
The amount of property taxes collected from each property owner depends on the assessed value of the property and type of property as determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), as well as the property tax rates established by Regional Council.
