Spousal and Child Support Assistance
Family Support workers (FSW) help parents on Ontario Works navigate the Family Court system and services, increase access to child and spousal support, and improve family finances and quality of life. Family Support workers provide advice and information about the how to pursue support; help set up out-of-court support agreements; assist clients at Family Court; and help clients work with the Family Responsibility Office (FRO), to assist with the enforcement of existing support orders.
Spousal support |
Spousal Support is money intended for the spouse rather than for a child. These funds must be pursued whenever possible for people who receive Ontario Works benefits or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and are deducted as income from social assistance payments. |
Payors in default and in receipt of Ontario Works |
The Family Support Worker (FSW) program may be able to assist with resources or referrals, or in some situations with a Motion to Change in court. Each case is different, and the FSW will not be able to automatically eliminate or reduce support debt. |
