Newcomer Entrepreneurship in Durham Region

Many newcomers to Canada consider opening their own businesses. The purpose of this project was to explore this at a local level in Durham Region and be able to create an ecosystem of support for newcomer entrepreneurs. This included researching:

Climate Change Action Plan

Creating awareness and uptake of information related to Climate Change and Sustainability, such as the Climate Action Project, is key to mitigating the effects of climate change.
The purpose of this project was to have students perform research and develop ideas for creating awareness around climate change curriculum.

Measuring the Health of our Local Economy

There is considerable difficulty in measuring the health of Durham Region’s economy. Traditional methods of measuring economic growth and activity (such as GDP) are not available for Durham Region, so we often rely on numerous individual data points to get a sense of how the economy is performing. Newcomers' Health Care Access

Research tells us that the health of immigrants declines after a period of time in Canada. Access to healthcare and other health services could be a key factor. The purpose of this project was to explore ways we can increase our understanding of the newcomer healthcare experience.
