Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department has developed an informative new video to help promote the availability of potassium iodide (KI) tablets for residents and businesses located within a 50-kilometre radius of the Region’s two nuclear generating stations in Pickering and Darlington. Health Department reports rabid bat found in Pickering

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department would like to hear from anyone who may have recently had contact with a bat that has tested positive for rabies. The bat was found ill/injured on a sidewalk along Beckworth Square in Pickering on Aug. 19. The positive test result on the bat was reported to the Health Department on Sept. 17. This is the second bat that has tested positive for rabies in Durham Region this year.

Whitby, Ontario – A new regional Smoking and Vaping By-law, regulating smoking and vaping of tobacco, vapour products and cannabis in public places and the workplace, has been approved and is now in effect. The previous Smoke-Free By-Law, which regulated smoking in public places and the workplace, has now been revoked.

Whitby, Ontario – Yesterday, the Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee (DAAC) successfully hosted its 17th annual farm tour at Willowtree Farm in Port Perry. The theme was “Farm to table in Durham Region,” and covered a variety of topics including: livestock, crops, on-farm processing and farm-related retail.
