Blue-green algae bloom confirmed in Wagner Lake - Tributaries north of Wagner Lake in Uxbridge and Brock townships also affected

Whitby, Ontario– Durham Region Health Department was notified by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) of the visual presence of a blue-green algae bloom in Wagner Lake, Uxbridge. As of Oct. 22, the blue-green algal bloom in Wagner Lake had dissipated. However, water samples collected by the MECP from an isolated pocket of algae in the north end of the lake was confirmed to be a blue-green algae bloom.

Durham Region asks residents to reconsider single-use plastics during Waste Reduction Week

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region’s corporate headquarters building in Whitby is buried behind a pile of single-use plastics today, as part of a display in recognition of Waste Reduction Week (October 21 to 27).

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is urging the governments of Canada and Ontario to recognize, acknowledge and declare a national health epidemic to help address the provincial and nation-wide opioid overdose crisis with an Opioid Overdose Emergency Resolution.

Whitby, Ontario – Residents of Clarington are encouraged to bring their household special waste to the new Household Special Waste Depot located at 1998 Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57), free of charge beginning October 23.
