Region of Durham invests $3.5 million into affordable housing

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is investing $3.5 million towards affordable housing, as part of its commitment to increase the supply of affordable housing across the Region.
This $3.5 million investment will help fund a new 52-unit rental apartment building in Bowmanville being developed by Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation on land made available by the Municipality of Clarington. Regional Council approves 2022 Property Tax Supported Business Plans and Budget

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Regional Council has approved the 2022 Property Tax Supported Business Plans and Budget.
The 2022 Property Tax Supported Business Plans and Budget total $1.73 billion in gross expenditures, requiring a 2022 tax levy of $760.2 million. This represents a proposed net property tax increase of 2.6 per cent, or approximately $74 for the average residential home with an assessed value of $483,100.

COVID-19 booster doses now available for Durham Region youth 12 to 17

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has now expanded eligibility for booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine for youth 12 to 17-years old, as announced by the Ontario Ministry of Health. Individuals 12 to 17-years old will now be able to receive a third dose booster at least 168 days after they received their second dose of a two-dose primary series.
In addition, youth 12 to 17-years old who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are recommended to receive a three-dose primary series...
Recycled waste materials to be used in Regional Road 18 Pilot Reconstruction Project in Clarington

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region is ready to proceed with Phase 2 of an innovative project for a segment of Regional Road 18 in Clarington, between Concession Road 5 and the bridge south of Kendal. Portions of the roadway will be reconstructed as part of a pilot project incorporating the use of recycled materials.
This 3.6 kilometre stretch of Regional Road 18 requires reconstruction and strengthening but has remained a low priority for near term work as the road carries low daily traffic volumes....
