Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“On behalf of the Region of Durham, I am overcome with sadness about the recent discovery of 215 children's remains at the former residential school on the land of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation in Kamloops, British Columbia. We honour and grieve for the children who were taken and never made it home.

Province fast-tracks second dose eligibility for this age group
Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department will begin rescheduling second dose appointments for individuals 80 and older on May 31 at 8 a.m. Existing scheduled appointments will be moved forward based on vaccine availability starting with dates around June 11. This change follows the provincial announcement on May 28 to accelerate second dose appointments for this eligibility group.

Whitby, Ontario – On May 26, Durham Regional Council approved the terms of reference for the Durham Region Anti-Racism Task Force (DRART).
The recommendation for the DRART comes as part of the Region’s commitment to develop and implement an Anti-Racism Framework to ensure a healthy workplace and to address racism within the communities the Region serves.

Province unexpectedly moved up original eligibility date from May 31 to May 23
Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department is expanding vaccine eligibility to individuals 12 years and older.
