Durham Region to collaborate with community partners on Oshawa Micro-Housing Project

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham will partner with Lakeridge Health, Ontario Tech University and Durham College on the Oshawa Micro-Housing Pilot Project.
The Oshawa Micro-Housing Pilot Project is a 10-unit micro-home community in central Oshawa that will offer temporary transitional housing with various supports, including financial assistance, employment services, mental health and addictions supports, life skills teaching and more. Occupancy is projected for fall 2021.

Health Department reminds residents to avoid wild animals to help prevent exposure to rabies

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department is reminding area residents to be aware and stay away from wild animals such as coyotes, raccoons, and foxes, as these animals are common carriers of the rabies virus. Over the past few weeks, Durham Region has seen an increase in animal bites involving wild animals and last week alone, there were two animal bites involving coyotes. Both victims are now receiving treatment for potential rabies exposure.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is seeking dedicated community members, including Durham Region residents and stakeholders, to apply to join Durham Region’s Anti-Racism Task Force (DRART). Interested applicants can apply until Friday, July 30 at 5 p.m., by completing the online form available at durham.ca/DRART.
