Free tax filing help available to residents living with low income

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region residents who experience economic hardship, unemployment, or who have no income, can get help with filing their taxes for free. Through tax filing, eligible residents can access benefits and credits that would put money in their pockets and help cover basic needs. There are more than 40 benefits and credits in Ontario; many can only be accessed when you file your taxes.

Whitby, Ontario – Do you have a product or service that can be used by the municipal sector? Pitch your business at the Business Showcase. This multi-day event is hosted annually by the Region of Durham, in collaboration with local area municipalities and community partners. The online event is a great opportunity to feature your business products and service solutions directly to municipal staff.

Durham Accessibility Conference explores best practices in building a more accessible region

Whitby, Ontario – Abilities Centre, in partnership with The Region of Durham, invites you to attend the Durham Accessibility Conference.

Scugog and Brock waste management facilities remain closed

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham advises residents that due to an ongoing power outage the following service disruptions have occurred:
- The Durham Waste Management Facility in Brock remains closed until further notice due to a power outage. The site will reopen once power is restored.
- The Durham Waste Management Facility in Scugog has now reopened after being closed due to a power outage.

Eligible residents can get help accessing income-boosting benefits

Whitby, Ontario – There are more than 40 benefits in Ontario that can boost incomes for residents living with low income. To help residents access these benefits, Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs will be available across Durham Region this spring.
Why: Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs can help eligible residents to:
- Learn about benefits they may be eligible for.
- Get or replace government identification, such as Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) and Birth Certificates.
