Region of Durham to test nuclear alerts on November 25 and 26

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham will hold its fall test of the nuclear alerting system on November 25 and 26. The system warns people in the unlikely event of an emergency at the nuclear generating station in Clarington or Pickering.
The test will take place during daytime hours over two days:
On November 25, an auto dialer will call about 100,000 landline phone numbers within 10 kilometres of the nuclear generating stations. The calls will show as coming from 905-666-6291.

Whitby, Ontario – Eligible residents can receive money for their child’s education after high school through the Canada Learning Bond. In recognition of Education Savings Week from November 18 to 22, the Region of Durham, in partnership with local municipalities and libraries, school boards, community agencies, Service Canada, and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), is hosting special events where residents can meet with financial institutions and sign up for this benefit.

PASS Case Management event to highlight community resources

Whitby, Ontario – Family Services Durham, a division of the Region of Durham’s Social Services Department, is hosting a Prompt Access to Single Session (PASS) Case Management event where adults (18 years of age or older) with a developmental disability and/or their caregivers can speak directly with an experienced and knowledgeable case manager.
