Save unwanted batteries for spring curbside collection

Whitby, Ontario – With the upcoming spring time change and local fire departments’ promotion of changing batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, the Region of Durham is reminding residents to save their used or unwanted batteries for recycling during the next curbside battery collection.
When: Spring battery collection occurs the week of April 22 on blue box collection days.

Weight restriction season on Regional roads begins March 1

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents that the Region restricts the operation of motor vehicles on designated roads during the spring weight restriction season, as per the Highway Traffic Act. This affects vehicles that are heavier than 5,000 kilograms or five tonnes per axle.

Durham Region Roundtable on Climate Change is seeking expressions of interest for citizen members

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is now accepting expressions of interest from individuals who wish to be considered for volunteer membership on the Durham Region Roundtable on Climate Change (DRRCC).
When: Expressions of interest must be submitted by March 15, 2019. A decision on the appointments will be made by Durham Regional Council on April 24, 2019.

Construction on Athol Street in downtown Oshawa

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, in partnership with the City of Oshawa, would like to advise residents that a portion of Athol Street in downtown Oshawa will be under construction until August.
When: Work is scheduled to begin March 4 and is expected to be complete by August 2. Unfavourable weather conditions may affect the work schedule.

Lane restrictions on Thickson Road in Whitby

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department advises residents of lane restrictions on Thickson Road (Regional Road 26), at Dundas Street (Highway 2) in Whitby due to a watermain break.
When: The lane restrictions are expected to be in place until further notice.
Where: Southbound on Thickson Road, 150 metres north of Dundas Street, in the Town of Whitby.
