Recycle your batteries during the week of April 22

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is reminding residents to place their used household batteries out for recycling on their blue box collection day, during the week of April 22.
When: Spring battery collection occurs from April 22 to 26 on blue box collection days.
Where: Households across Durham Region who currently receive curbside collection services.

Whitby, Ontario – Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs will be available across Durham Region this April and May to support residents living with low income.
What: Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs can help eligible residents to:
- Access Social Insurance Numbers (SINs), Birth Certificates and other forms of identification (ID). Service Canada will be issuing SINs on site, provided residents bring two valid identity documents. Service Ontario will share about provincial ID.

Weight restriction season on Regional roads ends April 2

Whitby, Ontario –The Regional Municipality of Durham and local area municipalities restrict the operation of motor vehicles on designated roads during the spring weight restriction season, as per the Highway Traffic Act and Regional By-law 26-2018. This affects vehicles that are heavier than 5,000 kilograms or five tonnes per axle. The final day of the Regional Municipality of Durham 2024 Weight Restriction season will be April 1.

Whitby, Ontario – Adults who require support – including adults living with cognitive impairments such as dementia – can participate in the Adult Day Programs for supervised therapeutic, social and recreational programming. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of upcoming lane restrictions on Thornton Road North (RR 52), in the City of Oshawa.
When: April 8 to 19. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Northbound and southbound lane restrictions on Thornton Road North, 100 metres north of Deer Valley Drive to 210 metres south of Deer Valley Drive, in the City of Oshawa.
