Changes to Regional services in observance of the National Day of Mourning

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents that Regional Headquarters, the Waste Management Centre, Ontario Works offices and Adult Day Programs at Hillsdale Estates and in Port Perry will be closed in observance of the federal National Day of Mourning.

Durham residents invited to give feedback on the Simcoe Street Rapid Transit Visioning Study

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa are working together on the Simcoe Street Rapid Transit Visioning Study; seeking feedback from residents to help assess the demand for rapid transit along Simcoe Street in Oshawa.

The Region will host the first virtual open house, with an opportunity for residents to ask questions and provide study-related comments at the end of the session.

Durham observes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the Remembering the Children Memorial

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at a Remembering the Children Memorial on September 24 at 11:30 a.m.

A commemorative orange crosswalk—designed by visual artist, Jon Colwell, a proud member of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation—and an accompanying plaque will be unveiled at the memorial. Whitby, Ontario – Presented by the Culinary Tourism Alliance, Feast On the Farm—a unique two-day, zero-waste event celebrating local food, drink and craftsmanship—is coming to Durham Region at Slabtown Cider Company (Slabtown Cider Co.) on September 18.

Road closure on Lake Ridge Road

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, in co-operation with the City of Pickering, Town of Whitby, and townships of Scugog and Uxbridge, is rehabilitating Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23). As part of the construction, a portion of Lake Ridge Road will be closed temporarily.

When: The closure will be from September 9 at approximately 7 p.m. to September 12 at approximately 6 a.m. Road reconstruction work is ongoing on Lake Ridge Road until September 2023.
