Durham Region Roundtable on Climate Change is looking for youth citizen members

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is now accepting expressions of interest from youth aged 16 to 25 who wish to be considered for volunteer membership on the Durham Region Roundtable on Climate Change (DRRCC).
When: Expressions of interest must be submitted by August 27, 2021. A decision on the appointments will be made by Durham Regional Council on September 29, 2021.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham advises residents of lane shifting and restrictions on Bayly Street (Regional Road 22) in the City of Pickering.
When: August 16 to the end of September. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Bayly Street between Sandy Beach Road and Krosno Boulevard, in the City of Pickering.

Drop off electronic waste, household hazardous waste and reusable items in Pickering on August 21

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region’s Works Department, in partnership with the City of Pickering, is hosting a Diversion Day on August 21. At the event, you can drop off electronic waste, household hazardous waste and reusable items, free of charge. Residents are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, to be donated to a local food bank. Please ensure that boxes and cans aren’t damaged, opened or expired.

Scugog Waste Management Facility will be temporarily closed to the public

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents that the Scugog Waste Management Facility (WMF) in the Township of Scugog will be temporarily closed to the public to accommodate the installation of new scales.
When: August 24 to 28, reopening on August 31.

Public Open House for Regional Official Plan Amendment for Protected Major Transit Station Areas

Whitby, Ontario – As part of Envision Durham, the Region of Durham is considering an amendment to the Regional Official Plan (ROP) to implement policies that support transit-oriented development within Protected Major Transit Station Areas (PMTSAs) across the region.
