Recycle your batteries during the week of April 19 to 23

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is reminding residents to place their used or unwanted household batteries out for recycling on their collection day during the week of April 19.

When: Spring battery collection occurs the week of April 19 on blue box collection days.

Where: Households across Durham Region who currently receive curbside collection services.

Ontario declares state of emergency, issues stay-at-home order

Whitby, Ontario – This afternoon, the Province of Ontario declared a state of emergency and issued a province-wide stay-at-home order, beginning Thursday April 8.   

When: Further restrictions go into effect on Thursday April 8 at 12:01 a.m. and will remain in place for at least four weeks.  

What: In addition to the emergency brake measures, further restrictions in the stay-at-home order include, but are not limited to:

• Discount and big box stores will be allowed to open for sale of essential items only.

Lane restrictions on Winchester Road West (Regional Road 3), in the City of Oshawa

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of east and westbound lane restrictions on Winchester Road West (Regional Road 3), in the City of Oshawa.         

When: April 19 to June 18. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

Where: Winchester Road West (Regional Road 3) from Simcoe Street North to 250 metres west of Simcoe Street North. 

Why: To safely construct an entrance to support new development.

Lane shifting and restrictions on Dundas Street West in Whitby

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Dundas Street West (Regional Highway 2) in the Town of Whitby.   

When: April 12 to May 2021. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.  

Where: Dundas Street West, between Fothergill Court and Swordfish Drive, in Whitby.

Why: To safely install a new watermain in support of new development.

Durham Region moves to province-wide shutdown

Whitby, Ontario – Today, the Province of Ontario announced that—as of Saturday, April 3—Ontario will be imposing the “emergency brake”; and will enter into a province-wide shutdown for at least four weeks, due to concerning trends in public health indicators.

This also means the current COVID-19 response framework “Keeping Ontario Safe and Open” will be paused when this province-wide emergency brake comes into effect.
