Durham Region activates more red light cameras in select locations

Whitby, Ontario – As part of Durham Vision Zero’s goal to eliminate fatalities on our roadways, Durham Region has activated more red light cameras at select locations throughout Durham Region to help improve traffic safety.
When: Five more red light cameras have been activated as of today (October 30).
Where:
New Locations
- Highway 2 at Courtice Road, Clarington
- Stevenson Road North at King Street West, Oshawa
- Simcoe Street North at Rossland Road West, Oshawa
- Ritson Road North at Bond Street East, Oshawa
Durham Region waste management facilities closed on Remembrance Day

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents that Regional Waste Management Facilities (WMF), the Household Special Waste Depot and the Waste Management Centre will be closed on Remembrance Day.
In addition, the Waste Management Call Centre will not be answering calls or emails on Remembrance Day.

Oshawa Waste Management Facility Paint Exchange Program now open

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of the reopening of the Paint Exchange Program at the Oshawa Waste Management Facility (WMF) in the City of Oshawa.
When: The program reopens on October 29.
Where: The Oshawa WMF at 1640 Ritson Road North in Oshawa.
Why: The Paint Exchange Program at the Oshawa WMF was temporarily closed on March 18, as it is a high-volume area that didn’t allow for physical distancing. Plans are now in place to have the program operate again...
Durham Environmental Advisory Committee seeking high school and post-secondary student members

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is seeking two high school students and one post-secondary student, residing in Durham Region, to serve as members of the Durham Environmental Advisory Committee (DEAC).
When: Interested students are asked to submit a letter of interest, outlining their knowledge of environmental issues and how they feel they can contribute to the committee by Monday, November 30, 2020.

Durham Region to host Waste Plan Virtual Town Hall

Whitby, Ontario – Residents are invited to join Durham Region’s Director of Waste Management Services and other members of our Waste Management leadership team for an hour-long virtual Town Hall session on November 5.
Community members will have an opportunity to learn more about the Region’s 2021 to 2040 Long-term Waste Management Plan (Waste Plan) and to provide their input to help develop the framework for the plan.
