Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region residents are invited to offer their ideas and input on how Durham Region manages its household waste.
Why: The Region’s five Rs approach (rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle, recover), allows for all waste diversion methods to be utilized. Recovery, the final method of the five Rs used by the Region, maximizes waste diversion by using garbage to capture energy from waste. Whitby, Ontario – The Durham Region Works Department is reminding residents that free waste diversion kits are available to Durham residents who are new to the region or who have recently moved into a new home. To get your free kit, fill out the New Resident Diversion Kit Form on the Region’s website.
What:
Each kit contains:
- Two blue boxes
- One large green bin
- One kitchen container
- One waste management calendar
When: Waste diversion kits are available year-round.

Whitby, Ontario – Due to potential strong winds in the weather forecast, The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department is asking residents not to leave blue boxes and green bins out overnight in order to reduce wind-blown litter in our communities.
When: October 31 and November 1, and all year round when windy weather is expected.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department advises residents of lane restrictions on Wilson Road (Regional Road 35), in the City of Oshawa.
When: Beginning the week of October 28, for eight weeks. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Wilson Road, from Attersley Drive to Beatrice Street, in Oshawa.

Recycle your batteries during the week of November 4

Whitby, Ontario – With the upcoming time change and local fire departments’ promotion of changing batteries in smoke alarms, Durham Region’s Works Department is reminding residents to place their used or unwanted batteries out for recycling on their collection day during the week of November 4.
