Regional Council returns to Standing Committee structure in December 2018

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to remind residents that Regional Council will return to the Standing Committee governance structure for the 2018 to 2022 Council term.

Distribution of December social assistance cheques

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising Ontario Works (OW) clients who normally receive their monthly payments by mail to pick up their December social assistance cheque at their local OW office.
When: December social assistance cheques will be available for pick up at local OW offices effective Wednesday, November 28 at 11 a.m.; and on subsequent days during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Road closure on Paxton Street in Port Perry

Whitby, Ont. – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents of a road closure on Paxton Street, at Old Simcoe Road in Port Perry.
When: December 4 and 5 during the day.
Where: Paxton Street, from Old Simcoe Road to 60 metres east Old Simcoe Road in the Township of Scugog.
Why: To install a new sewer service in support of new development.

Residents of Durham Region invited to comment on draft Durham Community Energy Plan

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, in collaboration with all eight area municipalities, five local utilities and other energy experts, is developing the Durham Community Energy Plan (DCEP), and we need your help.
When: Beginning November 13, the Region of Durham will be asking for feedback on the draft DCEP, which is a strategy that defines the community’s energy priorities to the year 2050. The survey will be open to the public for submissions until December 17, 2018.

Whitby, Ontario – Eligible residents can receive money for their child’s education after high school through the Canada Learning Bond. In recognition of Education Savings Week, the Region of Durham, in partnership with the City of Oshawa, is hosting a special event where residents can meet with financial institutions and sign up for this benefit.
