Lane restrictions on Achilles Road in Ajax

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Achilles Road in the Town of Ajax.
When: Ongoing until August 4. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
Where: Eastbound lane restrictions will be in place on Achilles Road, from Salem Road to 100 metres west of Salem Road, in the Town of Ajax.
Why: The lane restrictions will be in place for the installation of a new watermain.

The Region of Durham is proposing to reconstruct Wentworth Street (Regional Road 60), from Cedar Street to west of Farewell Street (Regional Road 56), in the City of Oshawa.
The reconstruction of Wentworth Street will include pavement rehabilitation, local road realignment, intersection modifications, sidewalks, a multi-use path, and watermain replacement.

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus in Durham

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has received notification that adult mosquitoes in Oshawa have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). This is the first mosquito batch in Durham Region to test positive for WNV this season.

Whitby, Ontario - Throughout the summer, Durham Region Health Department conducts weekly bacteriological water tests to determine if beaches are safe for swimming. The Public Health Ontario Laboratory in Peterborough tests the water samples.
Test results for the week of July 17 indicate that six public beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.
