Health Department reports more adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has received notification of more adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The positive batch of mosquitoes was collected from one of the Health Department’s mosquito trap sites located in Ajax. Positive confirmation was received on August 19. These are the first mosquitoes in Ajax to test positive for WNV this season. Mosquitoes identified with WNV have also been identified in Clarington and Oshawa so far this season.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Taunton Road West (Regional Road 4) in the Town of Whitby.
When: August 22 to September 2. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Taunton Road West (Regional Road 4), from Coronation Road to 250 metres east of Coronation Road, in the Town of Whitby.
Why: Lane restrictions will be in place to allow for storm sewer work to support new development.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, in co-operation with the City of Pickering, Town of Whitby, and townships of Scugog and Uxbridge, is rehabilitating Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23). Residents should expect minor traffic delays.

Whitby, Ontario - The following represents beach-posting information for Durham Region beaches. Test results for the week of Aug. 15 indicate that three beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.

The Regional Municipality of Durham, in partnership with the Town of Whitby, is advising residents of a road closure on Rossland Road in Whitby.
When: August 22 to 24. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
