The Region of Durham conducts an annual business count to gather employment statistics to ensure sufficient jobs for future population growth, to monitor and strengthen our economy, as well as provide a current and up-to-date directory for residents and visitors alike to shop and discover Durham. This data is collected mainly through in-person visits from May-August, as well as through calls and emails to the businesses. Businesses are also encouraged to fill out the online survey at their convenience. We were interested in knowing:
- What can assist in the collection of employment information from local businesses?
- How can we ensure our database is comprehensive?
- Are there current technologies which can be leveraged?
