The goal of this project is to see if it is possible to have a scalable carbon capture system that could be implemented Region-wide that uses minimal amount of materials (some barrels, pumps, and recycled materials along with algae and water) and takes advantage of incentives to drive Durham Region to the net zero goal. The problem to be addressed is the capture of the CO2 emissions using minimal tools, and then using the captured CO2 for agricultural purposes.
Host Department: Works
Type of Collaboration: Upper-year group project
Anticipated Outcome: Measure the amount of CO2 captured in the process of the project, find strategies for the algae utilization in agricultural industry, investigate incentives that can bring most benefit to the public in Durham Region that offset taxes and provide tangible improvements in both the ecological and economical sense.
Deliverables: Prototype
Timeline: 8 months
Desired Start Date: Fall semester 2024
