The Strategic Partnerships & Priorities team in the Social Services Commissioner’s Office strengthens public policy through research, builds capacity, and facilitates community relationships within the human services system to enhance life stabilization and support healthy communities within the Durham Region.
This project aims to create a poverty simulation tool that can raise awareness and provide important insights into the daily struggles faced by individuals and families living with low-income. These challenges include food security, childcare, transportation and access to needed resources. By designing a simulation tool, there will be an increased awareness of the complexities of living in poverty/low income.
Taking on this project, students will have the opportunity to inspire empathy, deepen understanding of poverty, drive meaningful conversation, and spark positive change. Your innovation in creating this valuable tool will empower individuals (e.g. community, political stakeholders and decision-makers staff, etc.) to take action related to poverty reduction/prevention efforts for those living in poverty and/or low income within our community.
