Whether you're perfecting your turns, catching air in the terrain parks, or tubing down the hills, there’s a winter experience waiting for all levels of skiers and snowboarders—from seasoned skiers to families looking for a day of adventure. Before we dive into Durham’s three ski locations—Brimacombe, Dagmar and Lakeridge—let’s go over the essentials to pack for a perfect day on the slopes.
What To Bring For A Day On The Slopes
Not sure what to pack for your ski adventure? Here’s a handy checklist to make sure you’re set for anything Mother Nature may bring:
- Warm Jacket and Snowpants: Insulated, waterproof, and windproof—stay warm and look cool. Add base layers for extra protection on those frigid days.
- Ski Socks: Light, breathable, and fast-drying socks ensure your feet stay comfortable and fit perfectly inside your boots.
- Helmet: Safety first! Helmets keep you warm and protected during your runs.
- Balaclava: Keep your face cozy and shielded from frosty winds.
- Ski Gloves: Waterproof, insulated, and cozy—your hands will thank you. Pack hand warmers for those extra-cold days.

Brimacombe
Brimacombe is one of the largest public ski and snowboard facilities in Southern Ontario. With 23 runs, seven lifts, freestyle terrain, an on-site retail store, and two cozy chalets spread across 70 skiable acres, it’s no wonder Brimacombe has been a winter haven for over 85 years.
Getting There & Parking
Located less than an hour east of Toronto, Brimacombe offers a quick and easy escape to a snowy paradise. With convenient access from highways 35/115, 401, and 407, getting there is a breeze.
Brimacombe has four parking lots, but Gate 4 is the best starting point for your day. This main lot is where you need to go for rental equipment and provides access to the East Chalet.
Pro Tip: You can also purchase lift tickets at Gate 2, located at the top of the resort, but start at Gate 4 if you need rentals or other amenities.
Lift Tickets, Rentals & Lessons
After parking, visit one of the ticket kiosks to purchase your lift ticket. Lift tickets are valid up to 4 hours, but if you are wanting to stay longer you can extend your lift ticket to stay until close for only $20! If you are just starting out and want to spend your day only on the “bunny hill”, Bambi, you can opt for the beginner lift ticket.
You can also buy your daily rentals at the Gate 4 kiosks. Ski and snowboard packages are available and include a helmet! Guests under the age of 18 looking to rent equipment will need a parent/guardian is required to sign the rental waiver.

Hit The Slopes
With 23 runs—11 of which are lit for night skiing—Brimacombe offers something for every skill level:
- Beginner: Try Pete’s Elbow, a green circle run perfect for easing into the sport.
- Intermediate: Test your skills on Flyer, a speedy blue square run.
- Advanced: Take on the Bowl, a thrilling black diamond run.

Rest & Refuel At The Bullwheel
When it’s time to take a break, head to the Bullwheel in the East Chalet. Offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, it’s a must-stop spot—don’t leave without trying their famous poutine!

Dagmar Ski Resort
Located in Uxbridge, Dagmar Ski Resort has been a winter favourite among Ontarians for ages. With 20 runs, four chairlifts, two magic carpets, two chalets, and a snow school, Dagmar is a perfect place to learn how to ski or snowboard. But the real highlight? Their renowned terrain parks—the largest in Durham Region—feature four “progression parks” designed for varying skill levels and over 60 features. Starting Your Day
Less than an hour northeast of Toronto, Dagmar Ski Resort is an easy and scenic escape for winter enthusiasts. Located off Lakeridge Road and accessible via Highways 401, 407 and 412, it’s a great spot for a quick day trip or a weekend adventure.
Dagmar makes it easy to kick off your day with parking located conveniently right in front of the main chalet. Once you arrive, head into the chalet to pick up your lift tickets, rent equipment, or grab a bite to eat before jumping on your skis. Everything you need is within reach, so you can hit the slopes without delay.
Lift Tickets, Rentals & Lessons
Dagmar offers a few lift ticket options, whether you’re staying for four hours or the whole day, only want to access the magic carpet, or an eight-pack for those who plan on going multiple times but don’t want to commit to a membership.
If you need equipment, Dagmar’s rental shop can provide you with skis and snowboard packages. Don’t forget that if you’re under 18, a parent or guardian will need to sign the rental waiver.
For those new to skiing or snowboarding, beginner-friendly Discover packages include both rentals and lessons to make your first time on the slopes stress-free. Ensure you call no earlier than one week in advance of the day you would like to have a lesson! Dagmar also offers a variety of seven-week lessons that run throughout the season.
Find Your Perfect Run
With 20 runs catering to every level, there’s plenty to explore at Dagmar:
- For Beginners: Start at the Family Learning Centre, where you can build confidence on gentle slopes.
- For Intermediates: Glide down one of their 5 blue square runs.
- For Experts: Push your limits on the black diamond runs or head straight for the terrain park.
Dagmar’s terrain park is the largest in Durham Region and a must-visit for freestyle fans. With more than 60 features and four progression parks, it’s the ultimate playground for both beginners and seasoned riders.
Rest & Refuel At The Chalet
Need a break from the action? Head to Dagmar’s main chalet, where you’ll find a range of meal options, snacks, and hot drinks to refuel. It’s the perfect spot to relax and recharge while enjoying views of the slopes.
Note: Outside food or drink are not permitted, but small brown bag lunches can be eaten at the outdoor picnic tables.

- Local B&Bs: Stay about 10 minutes away from the resort at Chalet Claremont. Dagmar suggests calling their Guest Services office for more options!
- Hotels Nearby: There are hotel options within a 20-minute drive such as the Residence Inn in Whitby and Homewood Suites by Hilton in Ajax.
Lakeridge Ski Resort
Just down the road from Dagmar, you’ll find Lakeridge Ski Resort, a winter destination with 22 runs and something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned pros. With two terrain parks, a snow-cross run and a separate snow tubing park, Lakeridge is the perfect spot for family fun or a thrilling day out with friends!
Getting There
Lakeridge Ski Resort is easily accessible off Lakeridge Road via the 401, 412, or 407. Parking is available in multiple lots on-site within walking distance to the main chalet, where you can pick up your rental equipment, lift tickets, and access storage lockers as well.
Lift Tickets, Rentals & Lessons
Lift tickets must be purchased online and picked up upon arrival in the main chalet. Standard lift tickets are valid for four hours, with extensions available if you want to stay longer! Beginner area tickets are also offered for those just starting out. In order to purchase online, the first step is to create an account with Ski Lakeridge.
Need gear? Rental packages are available at Lakeridge and can be booked online along with your lift ticket. You will be required to enter all renter information such as shoe size, height, weight, and skier level, which will then be saved to your profile. Other family members can be added to your profile for easier access to booking lift tickets and rentals for your next visit to Lakeridge.
Daily Lessons are a great option if you are looking to give skiing or snowboarding a try for the first time, or an avid skier looking to get some valuable advice from an experienced instructor! Check out their Discover Group Lessons for an affordable way to get a one-hour Discover lesson, four-hour lift ticket and four-hour rental package! Private and semi-private lessons are also available for those interested in a lesson more focused on your specific needs. Seven-week group lessons are available, but make sure to book these when they go on sale as they tend to sell out.
Plan ahead to ensure you get the date and time you want, especially during busy periods by booking up to two weeks in advance.

Snow Tubing
If you’re looking for a downhill thrill without the skis or board, Lakeridge’s Snow Tubing Park is the place to be! It’s the ultimate winter activity for families and friends looking to have a blast in the snow. Bonus: No experience needed—just grab a tube and go! Make sure to book your spot up to two weeks in advance on their website as walk-up tickets are not available.
Rest & Refuel At The Cafe
Need a rest? Lakeridge offers two cafeterias and an outdoor poutine shack that are licensed with slope side views. The cafeteria and outdoor poutine shacks are open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Check out their menu options and other FAQs, and feel free to stop in for a bite to eat even if you aren’t in the mood to go skiing! Outside food and drinks are not permitted, but homemade lunches can be eaten on the second floor.
