Whitby, Ontario - The following represents beach-posting information for Durham Region beaches. Test results for the week of August 26 indicate that three public beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water. This is the final report for the 2024 season.

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus in Whitby

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department has received notification that adult mosquitoes in Whitby have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). There have now been 13 mosquito batches in Durham Region that have tested positive for WNV this season including, three in Ajax, three in Clarington, three in Oshawa, three in Pickering and one in Whitby.
The current batches of positive mosquitoes were collected from the Health Department’s mosquito trap sites located in Pickering and Whitby....

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has received notification that adult mosquitoes in Clarington have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). There have now been 11 mosquito batches in Durham Region that have tested positive for WNV this season including, three in Ajax, three in Clarington, three in Oshawa and two in Pickering.
