Weight restriction season on Regional roads begins March 1

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham and local area municipalities restrict the operation of motor vehicles on designated roads during the spring weight restriction season, as per the Highway Traffic Act and Regional By-law 26-2018. This affects vehicles that are heavier than 5,000 kilograms or five tonnes per axle.
When: March 1 to April 30. The final day may be adjusted following periodic reviews of road and weather conditions at the end of weight restriction season.

Automated speed enforcement continues to improve road safety

Speed is a contributing factor in approximately one-third of fatal collisions. Reducing speed is the best way to reduce both the frequency and severity of collisions in our community.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham will be opening 1635 Dundas Street East in winter 2024 as a low barrier shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The Region has selected Christian Faith Outreach Centre (CFOC) as the service operator for 1635 Dundas Street East, through a comprehensive Expression of Interest process.
