North Durham Skills Gap Analysis and Commuter Study

Winter 2023

This project aimed to gain a better understanding of the skills required by employers in Durham Region’s northern municipalities of Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock (hereby known as north Durham) versus the skills of available job seekers in the same geography. As part of this project, datasets related to commuting patterns, educational attainment, job postings, and other forms of workforce data were examined to understand:

• What skills are north Durham employers looking for?
• What skills do north Durham job seekers have to offer?
• Who is commuting out of north Durham for work?
• Who is commuting into north Durham?
• What skills do these commuters have?

Data from this report will be used to communicate skills gaps to post secondary schools and develop other workforce development programming.
