Taking a ‘Workcation’ in Durham Region
Working from home has definite benefits. But, if you’re tired of your basement office, craving a vacation, and still stuck at home, chances are you could use a change of scenery.
According to numerous studies since the pandemic started, both working from home and working in an office have numerous benefits, and in general people seem to like a mix of both. But, with some offices not opening back up right away—if ever—you might be looking for your own “new normal”. What better way to ease back into office life than trying out some co-working spaces this summer? Think of it of like a working vacation! In this post we’re rounding up some options for shared offices spaces in Durham Region, alongside recommended places to grab lunch near these collaborative locations.
With hot desks, affordable meeting rooms, and flexible offices, these cool and vibrant temporary working spaces can spice up your workday, allow you to test out talking to people, and provide an excuse to get out your dust-covered office threads.
With amenities like fancy coffee bars, cool working nooks and state-of-the-art tech, co-working spaces are often close to amazing restaurants and cafes so you can have lunch on a nearby patio.
The Work Hub
Located just off the 401 in Ajax, The Work Hub has hot desks in their co-working lounge that are open for use via membership or drop-in day passes. With free parking and premium coffee, tea and water, you can take a break and dare we say it, a real lunch. Walk over to Maestro’s Gourmet Pizza and Gelato and enjoy your lunch overlooking the reflection pond at Pat Bayly Square.
Durham Corporate Centre
Located in Whitby just north of the 401 and open 24 hours, the Durham Corporate Centre offers hot desking by the hour, day or even month. With many options to choose from, you can give your next big presentation from one of their four boardrooms instead of your bedroom. For lunch, walk over to the Great Canadian Meat Company for the best sandwich of your life.
CORE21
Located in the heart of downtown Oshawa, CORE21 provides 11,000 square feet of versatile work and meeting space. You can sit at one of the many hot desk high top tables, or take it to one of their colourful couches. While there, you are going to have trouble picking a spot for lunch. There are so many! Why not try something a little different and walk over to Brew Wizards Board Game Café for hot dogs, nachos and a quick board game on their patio?
DYMON Work Refined
If you’re looking for something more refined, an upscale co-working space is launching soon in North Oshawa at Five Points Mall and will feature flexible terms and 24/7 access. Sharing space with DYMON Storage, DYMON Work Refined has various co-working memberships available from hot desks and virtual offices to dedicated workstations and private offices. For lunch, walk over to the Waltzing Weasel where their patio is waiting for you.
The Park
Located in Bowmanville, The Park is a newly-opened co-working space that features Hart—a fully staffed expresso bar—and meeting rooms, offices and desks. It’s free to hang out (literally!) in the café, lounge or at task tables. Only a ten minute walk from historic downtown Bowmanville’s shops and restaurants.
