Momentum continues to build for film production and related activities in Durham Region as there is growing interest in the region's unique sites and businesses to service the film industry. Demand for studio space is high in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and key filming locations like TriBro Studios, Parkwood National Historic Site, and the Sunbelt Rentals 90 acre film and television backlot enhance the attractiveness of Durham Region as a film location.

The region's film industry is assisted by Ontario Creates and offers many resources for the province’s creative media industries, including an experienced team, online digital location library, tax credits and funding information.

Music Industry in Durham Region

Durham’s music industry has a strong foundation, supported by festivals and events such as The Ontario Philharmonic, Springtide Music Festival, Convergence and Oshawa Music Week. Local talent has seen global success, with artists like Shawn Mendes, Daniel Caesar and Lennon Stella and Juno award winning acts Dizzy, Meghan Patrick, and Protest the Hero emerging from the region. The music scene is further supported by post-secondary programs like Durham College's Music Business Management program and initiatives such as The OMAs (Oshawa Music Awards)and the School Alliance of Student Songwriters (SASS) program.
