Creating a movie or television series requires a broad range of skills and interests, provides many well-paying, high-quality jobs, and is a booming industry in Durham Region and beyond. Between 2012 and 2019, production activity in Durham Region grew 220 per cent.
To meet the demand for workforce in the film industry in Durham Region, Film Durham recently hosted a Film and Television Industry Career Fair. The fair featured a trade show, industry panels, interactive displays and networking opportunities for an audience of more than 400 high school and post-secondary students, and adults looking for an exciting career. A highlight of the event was a mock production set that allowed attendees to have a behind-the-scenes experience with equipment provided by William F. White Inc.
The film industry offers a variety of career opportunities including: cinematography and camera, production sound, location scouting and management, costume design, hair and makeup, grip department, actor or performer, gaffer and electrical, props creation, animation, visual effects, accounting, assistant director, post-production and sound and picture editing.
This event was produced in collaboration with film industry unions NABET-700 Unifor, ACTRA, Directors Guild of Canada Ontario, I.A.T.S.E. 873, I.A.T.S.E. 411 and I.A.T.S.E. 667. Other partners included Reel Canada, Ontario Creates, Durham Workforce Authority, Durham College, Ontario Tech University, Trent University Durham GTA, job developers, local school boards and a local props business.

About Film Durham
Film Durham is a film commission under the Region’s Economic Development and Tourism Division (Invest Durham). Film Durham acts as a one-stop-shop supporting the film and television industry through location scouting, permitting, marketing activities, workforce development initiatives, industry familiarization tours and more.
