Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of a road closure in the westbound lanes and lane restrictions in the eastbound lanes of Bloor Street (Regional Road 22) in the City of Oshawa.
When: July 22 to July 24. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Bloor Street, from Ritson Road to Albert Street, in Oshawa.
Why: To safely install a new connection to an existing watermain.

Health Department reports season’s first positive mosquitoes for West Nile Virus

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has received notification of adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). Batches of positive mosquitoes have been reported from two trap sites – one located in Oshawa, the other located in Clarington. Positive confirmation was received on July 21. These are the first mosquitoes in Durham Region to test positive for WNV this season.

Entrance closure at Regional Headquarters on July 23

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents that, this Saturday, Regional Headquarters will only be accessible by the Garden Street entrance. Parking on site will be limited to staff and attendees at the event being hosted at Regional Headquarters.
When: Saturday, July 23.
Where: Only the Garden Street entrance will be open at Regional Headquarters, located at 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby.
Why: The closure is due to an event being hosted at Regional Headquarters.

Whitby, Ontario - The following represents beach-posting information for Durham Region beaches. Test results for the week of July 18 indicate that 10 beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.

Whitby, Ontario – Earlier this month, the Township of Brock and the Municipality of Clarington joined the partnership with LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) and the Region of Durham to offer subsidized tree planting that boosts the Region’s efforts to combat climate change. Residents, multi-unit property owners and commercial property owners from Brock and Clarington can now plant native trees at a low price through the LEAF Backyard Tree Planting Program.
