Watermain construction on Rossland Road West in Ajax

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department will be constructing a new watermain on Rossland Road West, from east of Church Street to Westney Road North, in the Town of Ajax. Lane restrictions and weekend road closures will be required to complete the project safely and efficiently.
When: Work is scheduled to begin this week and will be complete in spring 2020. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

Health Department reports rabid bat found in Port Perry

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department would like to hear from anyone who may have recently had contact with a bat that has tested positive for rabies. The bat was found dead on the sidewalk in the Chester Crescent area in Port Perry on Oct. 10. The Health Department received confirmation of the positive rabies test result on Oct. 16. This is the fourth bat to test positive for rabies in Durham Region this year.

Whitby, Ontario, Oct. 16, 2019 – Durham Region Health Department’s 2019 Nutritious Food Basket (NFB) report shows that the cost of a basic healthy diet for a family of four in Durham Region is calculated to be $861 per month or $199 per week. This represents a 9 per cent increase in food costs over the past five years.
