Whitby, Ontario - The following represents beach-posting information for Durham Region beaches. Test results for the week of August 1 indicate that one beach has been posted as unsafe for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.
Lane restrictions on Simcoe Street in the City of Oshawa

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Simcoe Street in the City of Oshawa.
When: August 8 to August 12. Unfavorable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Simcoe Street from Columbus Road East to Steepleview Court, in Oshawa.
Why: For storm sewer work to improve parking lot at local park.

Durham Community Collective releases report supporting local Black community hub

Whitby, Ontario – The Durham Community Collective (DCC), with the support of the Region’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division, has released its Black Community Hub in Durham Region: Rationale, Environmental Scan and Community Recommendations report.
The report was shaped by valuable feedback—from Durham’s Black, African and Caribbean communities—received during several community conversations and targeted engagement sessions this past June.

Durham Region and community partners host Emancipation Day Celebration

Whitby, Ontario – August 6 is the Emancipation Day Celebration in Durham Region. In celebration of Emancipation Day, August 1, the Region’s Emancipation 2022 Celebration Committee is hosting an in-person event. The theme is reflecting, restoring and reigniting for action.
This free, family-friendly celebration will include live performances, exhibits, food vendors, activities for kids and more.
