Virtual tax information seminar for seniors

Whitby, Ontario – Seniors in Durham Region can learn about tax benefits and credits available to them at an upcoming virtual seminar.
When: Thursday, February 10 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Where: This is a virtual event. Register online at durham.ca/LearningSeries.
Who: At this session, you will learn about benefits and credits that are administered by the Canada Revenue Agency, including:
- Age amount
- Pension income amount
- Disability tax credit
- Canada caregiver credit
- Medical expenses
- Amounts transferred from spouse
Eligible families can receive up to $2,000 for post-secondary education

Whitby, Ontario – Eligible families in Durham Region can receive up to $2,000 from the Government of Canada for their child’s post-secondary education.
To qualify for the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) benefit:
- The household income must be less than $49,000 per year.
- The child must be born in 2004 or later.
- As of 2022, CLB-eligible youth who are 18 years of age must apply for the CLB themselves.
The benefit is deposited directly into a Registered Education Savings Plan for the child.

Durham Region maintains Triple A credit rating from Moody’s Investors Service

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has maintained its Triple A credit rating with Moody’s Investors Service (Moody’s). The Region is currently one of eight Canadian municipalities to have been awarded the Triple A rating by this agency.
