Health Department works with community partners to conduct enhanced COVID-19 surveillance testing

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department and local community partners have been working hard to conduct enhanced COVID-19 surveillance testing in local long-term care homes. This testing is part of the provincial surveillance initiative to get a point-in-time picture of COVID-19 in these facilities. The province has set a deadline of May 15 for this enhanced testing to be completed.

Whitby, Ontario - The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to remind residents and businesses to help reduce litter in the community on waste collection days. Recyclables set out at the curb for Blue Box collection, including containers and paper materials, can blow away during windy weather if not set out correctly. Leaving blue box litter in your neighbourhood, parks, and along the streets is detrimental to the environment and safety of the community.

“Today, Durham Region Health Department declared the COVID-19 outbreak over at Hillsdale Terraces long-term care facility in Oshawa.
Hillsdale Terraces was one of the first homes in Ontario to declare a COVID-19 outbreak, on March 19. This outbreak unfortunately resulted in the death of 14 residents. Another 28 residents tested positive and have subsequently recovered. In addition, 13 employees tested positive with eight staff fully recovered and five more at home recovering.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham advises residents of lane restrictions on Anderson Street (Regional Road 36) in the Town of Whitby.
When: Ongoing to June 12. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Anderson Street, from 85 m south of Crawforth Street to Rossland Road (Regional Road 28), in Whitby.
