1. Take-out coffee cups
Coffee cups don’t belong in the blue box. The plastic lining that prevents them from leaking also makes them unsuitable for recycling.
2. Plastic bags
Durham Region doesn’t accept plastic bags. Residents are advised instead to return them to retailers participating in the Plastic Bag Take-Back program.
3. Soiled cardboard

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham, along with the Municipality of Clarington, City of Oshawa and Town of Whitby are asking the Province to reaffirm its commitment to extend GO Train service east to Oshawa and Bowmanville. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department advises residents of a road closure on Cedar Street in the City of Oshawa.
When: January 7 to 11. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Cedar Street, from Carlton Court to Wasaga Court, in Oshawa.

Convenient curbside Christmas tree collection in January

Whitby, Ontario – When the holidays are over, Durham Region will collect natural Christmas trees to be shredded into wood chips and used as mulch.
When and where:
- Ajax and Pickering: Christmas tree collection will be on regular collection days during the weeks of January 7 and 14.
- Brock, Clarington, Scugog and Uxbridge: Christmas tree collection will only take place on Monday, January 7 and Monday, January 14.
