Whitby, Ontario - The following represents beach-posting information for Durham Region beaches. Test results for the week of Aug. 31 indicate that four beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water. This report represents the Health Department’s final update for the 2020 summer season.

Whitby, Ontario – In support of Durham Vision Zero, Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras will become operational in some school zones and designated community safety zones in Durham Region on September 8.
ASE cameras will take images of vehicles that are detected going over the speed limit. These images are then reviewed by a Provincial Offences Officer, and an offence notice will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle. No demerit points are issued.

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham invites you to celebrate Bike Month by taking part in a series of fun and educational cycling activities throughout the region. From September 1 to 30, residents are encouraged to explore Durham’s unique landscapes and scenic trails while practising safe cycling.

Port Perry residents asked to practise additional water conservation during water tower maintenance

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is asking residents using the Port Perry municipal water supply to practise additional water conservation efforts as the Works Department conducts maintenance on the Port Perry water tower. Residents should limit non-essential water use during this time.
When: Friday, September 4 to Friday, October 2. Once the work is completed, residents may return to normal water conservation efforts. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

Region of Durham installing Wi-Fi at homeless shelters thanks to donation

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has received a donation of $32,500 through the COVID-19 Community Response Fund for Vulnerable Populations—a collaboration between the CMA Foundation and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
