Health Department begins 2021 West Nile virus surveillance activities

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has started West Nile virus (WNV) surveillance and control activities for the 2021 season. Ongoing surveillance for WNV involves a number of activities to monitor for the virus across the Region including, implementing a weekly adult mosquito-trapping program, a larval mosquito surveillance program and a larviciding program involving regional catch basins, as well as identifying stagnant water sites where mosquitoes could breed.

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has declared the L1L north Oshawa postal code as a hot spot area. Starting May 17 at 9 p.m., eligible individuals will be able to book vaccine appointments for this hot spot area at the Ontario Tech Ice Campus clinic. Whitby, Ontario – Parents and caregivers in Durham Region are invited to attend the virtual Let's Talk - EarlyON Parent Town Hall. This virtual event will focus on the impact the COVID-19 pandemic may have on young children (six years of age or younger); featuring a panel of experts to help answer questions about children’s development and health.
