As a part of Durham Vision Zero, Durham Region is making bicycle crossings easier and safer for cyclists, drivers and pedestrians by installing crossrides along multi-use path routes at intersections throughout the region. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is hosting a virtual Prompt Access to Single Session (PASS) Case Management event where adults (18 years of age or older) with a developmental disability and/or their caregivers can speak directly with an experienced and knowledgeable case manager. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Taunton Road East near Brock Street North in the Town of Whitby.
When: Day and night August 17 to August 19. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

Health Department reports season’s first positive mosquitoes for West Nile Virus

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has received notification of adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The positive batch of mosquitoes was collected from one of the Health Department’s mosquito trap sites located in north Oshawa. Positive confirmation was received on July 28. These are the first mosquitoes in Durham Region to test positive for WNV this season.

Whitby, Ontario - The following represents beach-posting information for Durham Region beaches. Test results for the week of July 27 indicate that five beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.
