New Regional Woodland By-law to replace Tree By-law effective immediately

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has introduced a new Regional Woodland By-law (30-2020); replacing the previous Regional Tree By-law (31-2012).
When: Effective immediately.
Where: Across Durham’s eight local area municipalities.
Why: To prohibit or regulate the destruction or injury of trees in woodlands within Durham Region.

Durham reports positive building permit growth for the first half of 2020

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has compared the 2020 development application data (January to June) with data collected for the same period in 2019. The data showcases positive growth in both residential and non-residential building permits, applications and volume when compared to the first half of 2019.

Whitby, Ontario – Yesterday, Durham Regional Council approved the Expedited Supportive Housing Report, which identifies the urgent need for affordable and supportive housing. The report outlines two proposed projects—the development of a modular supportive housing project in Beaverton and a new micro-homes pilot project in Oshawa.
By expediting the development of these projects, the Region helps to address the needs of Durham’s unsheltered residents, which were highlighted during the COVID-19 crisis.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department reminds residents of changes to the scheduled curbside blue box collection in the City of Oshawa and Town of Whitby due to the upcoming Civic Holiday on August 3.

Road widening and reconstruction on Harmony Road in Oshawa

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of ongoing lane restrictions and temporary road closures to allow road widening and reconstruction work on Harmony Road (Regional Road 33) in the City of Oshawa.
Work will occur in stages; Harmony Road will be widened to four lanes, with turning lane improvements at critical intersections, and one side of the road will be reconstructed at a time in order to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction.
