Curbside battery collection is November 5 through 9

Whitby, Ontario – With the upcoming time change and local fire departments’ promotion of changing batteries in smoke alarms, the Region of Durham is reminding residents to save their used or unwanted batteries for recycling during the next curbside battery collection.
When: Battery collection occurs the week of November 5 on Blue Box collection days.
Where: Households across Durham Region who currently receive curbside collection services.

Watermain break causes lane restrictions on Durham Highway 2 in Newcastle

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents of lane restrictions on Durham Highway 2 in downtown Newcastle due to a watermain break.
When: The road has been closed since early this morning, and will be re-opening with reduced lanes by noon (October 25). The full repair should be complete, and all lanes re-opened, during the day tomorrow (October 26). Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise residents that John Henry has officially been declared elected to the Office of Regional Chair. Henry will be sworn in during the inaugural council meeting of the 2018 to 2022 term, which is scheduled for December 5 at 10 a.m. at Regional Headquarters.
