Before viewing the floodplain map, please read the following about what it can and cannot be used for.
- Does show the latest available data mapped by the Conservation Authorities as a representation of the regulatory floodplain, which can help us understand:
- Which areas may theoretically be inundated with flood waters in an extreme event
- Where emergency services may be needed
- Areas where flood mitigation is needed to protect existing communities and future development
- Does not represent all types of flooding. Pluvial (or "urban" flooding) and shoreline flooding have not been incorporated into the viewer. It does not represent all places where flooding can occur. Riverine flooding could also occur outside of the floodplain due to larger storm events or a combination of factors (like debris, ice jams, or blockages).
- Does not constitute a regulatory flood plain map as formally approved by a qualified Professional Engineer and the Conservation Authority.
- Does not show the precise limits of the floodplain.
- Does not replace consultation with Conservation Authorities for development, permitting applications, or for any other reason. Always contact the relevant Conservation Authority for the use of floodplain information, or when making any decisions with this information.
- Is not static - the floodplain boundaries can change with changing variables (like topography, infrastructure, land use, available data like weather, stream flow, and hydraulic and hydrological modelling techniques).
