Who does what?
Flood risk management is a shared responsibility among many agencies.
Federal government – involved in great lakes water level management, policy, and regulations (e.g., International Joint Commission).
Province of Ontario - develops and issues flood-related guidelines and standards (e.g., defining regulatory storms).
Conservation Authorities – floodplain modeling, natural hazard mapping and management associated with riverine and shoreline systems, flood forecasting, and warning programs.
Regional municipalities – tend to be involved in promoting consistency and/or resourcing for flood-related projects.
Local municipalities – planning and development, infrastructure owner/operators and responsible for the management of urban flooding in specific jurisdictions.
