Answering the call: RDPS welcomes new paramedics
Joining Region of Durham Paramedic Services (RDPS) means more than starting a job—it means answering a call to serve. On January 30, RDPS proudly welcomed 16 new paramedics at a New Recruit Ceremony held in Regional Council Chambers—marking the milestone of the start of their careers in emergency services.
These paramedics are embarking on a path defined by purpose, compassion and courage. Their work will place them in moments when their presence truly matters, delivering life‑saving care at the highest standard for Durham residents.
“I am incredibly excited and proud to begin my career with the Region of Durham. It is an honour to be able to serve the people of this region alongside such a dedicated and professional team of fellow paramedics and leaders,” says Alyson Wawryk, a primary care paramedic with RDPS.
RDPS is one of the largest paramedic services in Ontario, with more than 500 primary care and advanced care paramedics serving a growing and evolving community. Welcoming new team members is part of the continued investment in the health and safety of residents across the region.
Today—and every day—we celebrate the dedication, skill, and bravery paramedics show to keep Durham Region residents safe.
