Alcohol, Cannabis, Drugs and Smoking
Alcohol and other drugs change the way you act, think and feel.
Using these substances can have risks and a negative impact on your life. The more you use these substances, the greater the risk to your health.
Durham Region Health Department offers a number of resources. We work with community partners to provide supports. We want to help prevent the misuse of these substances and possible injuries.
Using tobacco can also be harmful to your health. We offer resources to help people quit smoking and stay smoke-free. Our staff enforces the Smoke Free Ontario Act, 2017. It bans smoking and vaping of any substance, including medical and recreational cannabis, in enclosed workplaces, enclosed public spaces and other designated places. The act protects workers and the public from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke and vapour. The act bans the sale of tobacco and vapour products to anyone under 19 years old and restricts the display and promotion of tobacco and vapour products.
