Durham Region celebrates Lunar New Year; welcomes the Year of the Snake

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“I would like to extend warm wishes of health, joy and good fortune to Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other East and Southeast Asian families in Durham Region, and around the world, celebrating Lunar New Year.

On this festive occasion, we celebrate our community’s rich cultural diversity, shared traditions and the people who make Durham the dynamic region it is today.

This year ushers in the Year of the Snake, representing a year of transformation and opportunities for growth and renewal. It is a year often associated with reflection and strategy—which is fitting as we gear up to introduce Durham Region’s new Strategic Plan that will guide the work we do over the next 10 years.
