This paper is the first of several discussion papers to be released throughout 2019, as part of Envision Durham, the Region’s Municipal Comprehensive Review of the Durham Regional Official Plan (ROP). With the release of these papers, the public is invited to provide their input. Each paper contains discussion questions, with a supplemental workbook, to help facilitate discussion and input.
What: The Agriculture & Rural System Discussion Paper provides an overview of Durham’s Rural Area and the current ROP policy framework, identifies provincial policy requirements and trends since the last ROP review, and identifies preliminary approaches and questions for discussion and feedback.
When: The Agriculture & Rural System Discussion Paper is available for public input until June 3 (a 90-day commenting period).
Where: The Agriculture & Rural System discussion paper is available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
Why: Envision Durham is beginning the “Discuss” stage of its public engagement program and we need your input. Please consider providing comments on the Agriculture & Rural System Discussion Paper and taking the Envision Durham Public Opinion Survey (open until April 6).
Note: Further consultation on the Agriculture & Rural System Discussion Paper will be taking place in conjunction with the update of the Region’s Agricultural Strategy. Additional information on this consultation is available at durham.ca/Agriculture.
Envision Durham is an opportunity to plan for change, by replacing the current Regional Official Plan (ROP) and establishing a progressive and forward-looking planning vision for the region to 2041. As Council’s core planning document, guiding Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development, the ROP provides policies to ensure an improved quality of life. Our vision is to create healthy and complete, sustainable communities within the region, and shape Durham into a great place to live, work, play, grow and invest.
Additional Discussion Papers on Climate Change and Sustainability, various components of Growth Management, the Environment and Greenlands System, the Transportation System, and Housing, will be released throughout 2019.
